Self-Cleaning - How It Works

How Sediment Affects Electric Water Heaters

In electric water heaters, scale builds up on the heating elements, reducing their ability to transfer heat to the water. This causes the elements to repeatedly overheat,
stressing the elements and causing them to fail prematurely.

How Sediment Affects Gas Water Heaters

Accumulated scale acts like insulation on the bottom of the tank. As a result, the bottom of the tank is repeatedly overheated, stressing the metal and causing it to leak prematurely.

How Self-Cleaning Feature Works

The incoming water tube is specially designed to constantly stir up sediment particles every time you use hot water. Keeping the particles suspended in the water prevents
them from settling and building up inside the tank.
